The door flew open,
And into the chamber Saint Peter flies...
God spoke, "Be at peace my dear friend.
Why are there tears in your eyes?"
My Lord, four more have fallen,
It was for freedom that they died!
"Marines?" he said, "The word fills me with pride."
"How long until they arrive?"
Time is short, they won't be long now! Saint Peter cried.
"Awaken them all"
"All of them, Lord?"
For over two-hundred and thirty years,
They have lived and breathed "Semper Fi!"
Reveille, Saint Peter said;
They will all want to be at his side.
And with that, there went out a call...
The bugles sounded,
Their hymn could be heard in every hall.
Peter, said God, "Call them and my son to the Gate,
There we will greet him; it is there we will wait."
Then the men began to arrive,
God told his Son,
"Because of sacrifice like this,
Your message will survive"
He told the men,
"My son, he died for the freedom of men's souls,
And you Marines,
You died for the freedom of men's lives."
This too makes all of you , my sons, His brothers,
So like those that came before you,
Take your place by my side.
Then the Gate began to open,
And there the men saw,
Marines, lined the streets
Over forty-thousand strong.
Again God spoke,
"These are your brothers, others that heard the call,
And like you they died for freedom,
To keep evil men from doing wrong."
Before them stood men in uniforms,
Dating back to seventeen seventy-five;
All glad to see that in these men,
Their Corps' values were still alive.
So down the path they began to walk,
With whispers of "Oorah! and Semper Fi",
As God continued to talk.
"For over two centuries,
Your Corps' has never faltered,
To muster, fight and spill your blood,
Over freedom's great altar.
For everyone of you who died,
Thousands have you set free.
Since that day in the Tun Tavern,
I knew each of you,
Would walk next to me.
They started to come to the end
Where they recognized a face.
His name was "Chesty Puller",
The talk of every base.
To these men he said;
From the hall of Montezuma, to the shores of Tripoli,
The Corps has fought for the cause of freedom,
In the air, on the land, and the sea."
The horns grew louder now,
Then General Lejeune began to speak.
"And now we guard the streets of Heaven,
We the "Few,The Proud,The Marines"
