Epilogue to "Our First Night in Vietnam"
From that first day of all that fear.
Till the last day.
When the government of South Vietnam
Fell to the NVA
Ten years had past
Many had died and many had been wounded
Many had been POW's
Many were listed as MIA's
There had been 10-one year rotations of many Army men
And 10-13 months rotations of Marines
To what end and WHY?
Are questions that many of us
Are asking of our government
Our allies too are asking their governments
These same questions
Was it worth it?
I don't know the answer to that question!
Maybe someone will tell us that answer in the future
Many have return
After surviving that hell!
With many memories that still are in their minds
It's not easy to forget
The "WALL" in Washington D.C
Is a reminder of the price that we paid in blood
It also reminds us
"Hey, don't forget those still listed as POW/MIA's
Because they answered the call
While many were protesting or running away
To avoid serving
Will we ever have another night
Like "Our First Night in Vietnam"?
I pray that we will never have another war!
As the one we served in.
