Something about development.

I read in the New African August/Sepember about the Barclays Bank of Ghana. It is starting a project for Susu Collectors. Susu Collectors are informal finans providers. They work in markets all over Ghana and provice traders without formal bank connections a way to save and borrow money. They collect a small amount of money every day for 31 days and at the end of a period the susu collectors give the traders back their money taking only one days contribution for themselfs as pay for his service.

The basic goal of the Barclays Bank is to provice the susu collector with service that can help their business like accounts to keep the money collected during the 31 days.  The project also has aim at providing financial awareness to trader.

What I like about this project is that the Barclays Bank is reaching out to the informal finans sector both to bring service to more people and also to gain new costumer amoung people how have littel or no contact with banks in general.  It is my hope that this project becames a succes because it could be the begining for a good development for banks in Ghana. Most ghanians do not have bank account so their is a huge potential for new costumers for banks in Ghana if they find a way to reach the many without a bank account.
