Pop served in the U.S. Navy 43rd
Construction Battalion (Seabees) during World War II. He was
first stationed in Kodiak, Alaska, and later on the islands of
Oahu and Maui in the Hawaiian Islands. He was discharged in 1945,
just before his battalion was scheduled to sail for Japan. While
in Alaska, Pop bought a Photograph/Memory book (with a picture of
a dogsled team "The Malamute Limited" painted on the
front). In this book, I found a few pictures and several
autographs of some of his shipmates.
