Trevor's second question was a clicking speedo/tacho cable. I replaced the
broken speedo cable in my Alfetta and the new one now clicks. I don't know
how to fix it although I am sure that some grease would help - but the rule
is that one doesn't grease speedo cables - isn't it? I guess that no one
answered Trevor's question because no one has an answer. Now there's two of
us who want to know!

Subject: No more clicking gauges!!!
Some of you might remember I asked not long ago about how to fix annoying
clicking tacho and speedo gauges, the response was terrific. For those of you
with a similar problem I found something on the weekend which quietened my
clicking gauges down tremendously!!
I unscrewed both cables from the back of the dash, and down the cable (between
the cable and its outside sheath that is) I put a very small amount of
motorcycle chain lube (from my go kart toolbox), which is rather sticky oily
stuff. I left both cables upright overnight for the lube to make its way down
the cables. Next morning I put them back in, and since then I've heard no
clicking, it's great!!! I must admit the gauge needles are still a little
bouncy at low speeds (although better than before) but that should be solved
by making sure there are no tight curves in the cables or by replacing the
cables themselves if they are worn, as some of you mentioned. Anyway the best
thing is that I have no annoying clicking and it cost me nothing!! That's
unusual for my car.....
