The History (and future) of Satan

Michael Davis, AS, BS, MA (cand)

The spiritual entity known as Satan or Lucifer is a created being of ancient origin. The Scripture records how he was created, placed into highly a esteemed position and then, because of pride and boastfulness, was removed. The Bible student will do well to understand this enemy of the soul and how to combat him. A discussion will follow of his origin, his fall, and his ongoing fight against the righteous. Finally, the writer will divulge the manner of Satan's ultimate end.
Satan, or "adversary", has existed as a Cherub from the original creation. He held a position of "arch-angel"--a position of power and authority until which time he allowed pride to cause him to sin against the Creator. He led a rebellion in which about 1/3 of the angelic host fell with him. Jehovah delt with him, vigorously. He was stripped of position and cast into the realm of Earth for the final showdown of good and evil.
He was part of the original creation. Psalms 148:1-6, Coll 1:16,17 He was a created arch-angel. He allowed pride to bring his downfall. He has become the enemy of your soul. He will be defeated and cast into the Pit.

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning? how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations? For thou hast said in thine heart, 'I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High.(Isaiah 14:12-14)

Thou art the annointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thiu hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Thy heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
