Various marriage dates & years have been given on their childrens birth records (Sarah�s gives January 1877, Abraham�s gives 25 April 1875 and Ada�s shows December 1876), this seems rather odd! We need to consider they may not have actually married. Harris Wolfson was born about 1853 most likely in Odessa, Russia. He died in 1927 in Sydney, NSW. . Harris was not born with the surname Wolfson. He began using this name between December 1882 & May 1884, the reason for this is unknown. The birth certificate for daughter Nancy in 1879 gives the surname 'Walowinski'. The birth certificate for son Jacob in 1882 gives the surname 'Vollevelski'. We can presume from this that Harris Wolfson's original surname was something that sounded much like 'Vollevelski' & 'Walowinski'. The 1881 census gives the surname as 'Vallenvensky'. Harris & Dora were using the surname Wolfson by May 1884 when they registered their forth child 'Eva Wolfson'. The birth certificate for son Jacob also gives Dora's maiden name as 'Dora Sampson' whereas Nancy's gives 'Dora Duborfski'. We have yet to discover where the name 'Sampson' comes from. However according to an entry in a family tree on the ancestry website, Dora's sister Annie Dubowski was also known as 'Annie Simpson'. The name Sampson & Simpson are most likely the same, one being a typo. There is certainly strong evidence here to suggest this name is quite significant.
