About Dimiter Petrov, LZ1AF
< ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------->
Born on 8 November 1932 in the town of Belogradchik, Bulgaria. I am an artist/designer by trade. Retired from Government office as Director of the State Commission for Arts and Architecture at the Ministry of Culture in 1992, but I now work for the private company ACOM in Sofia, manufacturing HF amplifiers as a designer and consultant.
Married, have a daughter and a grandson, 20, who live in Brisbane, Australia.

I became interested in amateur radio in 1946. Got on the air unlicensed as LZ1KY in 1950 when my first ever CQ on 14 MHz CW with 3 watts was answered by VK6RU with a report of 579! That was the spark that ignited my ham career and I remained a DXer and CW man for ever.

As individual amateur stations were not permitted in this country in the 50's, I operated the Central Radio Club station LZ1KAB and got my own ticket as LZ1AF in 1957. My main interests in ham radio are CW, DXing and friendly contacts. I am one of the founders and President of the LZ CW CLUB, and also a member of FOC, FISTS CW, A-1 Op, RCC.

I am also the founder and editor of the weekly DX Program in English of Radio Bulgaria which has been on the air since 1957.

At present my ham set up consists of ICOM IC751A, Alpha 91B amplifier, Force 12 BA five bander and a long wire for 1.8 to 10 MHz. I am pretty regular on the bands and looking forward to meeting all those who read this. Thank you!

73! Dimiter
