Summary: With the girl he loves going to the ball with a Hogwarts champion, Roger Davies finds himself asking another girl.

Cho Chang was going the Yule Ball with Cedric Diggory.
Roger Davies knew he hadn't a right to be annoyed, it wasn't as if Cho were his girlfriend. She was only his housemate, his Seeker, his friend, the axis of every daydream.
"You are such a coward, Davies," he told himself for the hundredth time that day on his way to Charms. He had already bought his dress robes and his parents were going to spend the holidays on a second honeymoon. It was too late to change his plans, he would be stuck at school for the holidays.
Then Fleur Delacour walked past him, a vision in her Beauxbatons kit, and Roger found that his feet were propelling him forward as a plan blossomed in his mind. He would ask Fleur, she would say 'no', and when he showed up at the ball without a partner he could shrug and point to the French girl. When the champions and their partners opened the ball, he could quietly watch Cho without everyone knowing just which girl had waltzed away with his heart.
"Uh, Fleur...would you go to the ball with me?" She, like Cho, surely had an escort by now. He wondered how many boys had asked her already.
Fleur stopped and studied him carefully. Roger felt strangely dizzy under the intense blue of her gaze.
Amusement tugged at the corner of Fleur's perfect lips. "Yes. I veel go to ze ball with you, Roger."
She gave him a dazzling smile before disappearing down into a classroom. Roger leaned against the stone wall, hoping he hadn't just got himself in over his head. He was afraid it was already too late.
