"Mandy, who was the Minister of Magic before Arcturus Lestrange?" Terry asked his friend as he shuffled through his notes in an attempted to pound just a few more facts into his weary brain. Despite having spent at least two weeks reviewing for his History of Magic exam, Terry felt all of his hard-won knowledge pouring out from him like water. He was going to do miserably on this exam, he just knew it. He rested his head on his table for a moment before glancing over at Mandy, who was seated to his right.
Mandy did not look up at him as she answered a moment later. Her gaze was fixed upon the chart in their textbook that compared the three most notable International Wizards Conventions. "Lissette Edwards."
"And what was the reason the Goblins rebelled in 1492?"
"The Ministry’s decision to regulate banking without including Goblins in the drafting of the laws," Mandy answered mechanically. She flipped to another marked page in her book and absently chewed on the tip of her quill as she read.
"Thank you," he said. "Where the Battle of Beruna was fought?"
Mandy looked up from her book, the sharp motion caused her glasses to slip halfway down her nose, and frowned at him. Terry would never tell her, but she became very much like an irritated McGongall when she was under pressure.
"Beruna, of course!" Mandy adjusted her glasses and returned to her book.
Terry decided to refrain from making further inquiries to Mandy. He glanced over to his left at his girlfriend Lisa and wondered if it was safe to ask her again. Then he rubbed his right arm. The bruise from the book she had lobbed at him earlier was still there. Mandy was almost a saint compared to Lisa when she was worried about a test. Lisa was determined to be Head Girl and became an Amazon at the end of term whereas Mandy simply wanted to do her best. He thought about asking Padma - she was never bothered about such things and yet always did well - but she was helping Michael Corner with the chronology of the first Ministers of Magic.
Just then Professor Binns entered the room through the chalkboard. The Ravenclaws reluctantly cleared their desks as he handed out the special parchment and quills for the test. Terry broke the seal on his test as soon as it appeared on his desk. He could not help a little smile of relief when he saw the first question.
Compare and contrast the events of the 1492 Goblin Rebellion with those that culminated in the 1699 Battle of Beruna.
