"Scylla and Charybdis"

Da'an gazed out the window, it still felt a bit odd to be back in the embassy after Robilard's attack but Taelon structures were remarkably resilient as long as the spine was intact. A few days to regenerate the essential chambers were all that was required.

He returned to his chair and activated the datastream, then in frustration waved it away. T'Than's plans sickened him despite the glaring fact that they had once echoed his own goals for Humanity.

But that was before Boone, before Liam.

The fact still remained that he was rapidly losing influence in the Synod, a situation that had to be rectified. The insult of being passed over in favor of T'Than and having to deliver the news still rankled no matter what he told the War Minister. Now he had to choose with whom to ally and soon. Liam would call his decision a choice between the lesser of two evils, an apt phrase for the occaison, Da'an decided.

After the Bliss epidemic, Da'an had read the works of the ancient human poet Homer. He found both works attributed to him disturbing in their violence and morals, yet strangely appealing for the archaic code of honor and devotion stressed throughout. He could easily sympathize now with Odysseus being forced to allow the mysterious Scylla to take six of his crew rather than veer too close to Charybdis and lose his entire ship.

Da'an frowned inwardly though his exterior presented a calm facade. Odysseus had known which to choose should it come to a choice. He still did not know whether T'Than was Scylla and Zo'or Charybdis or vice versa.

And time was trickling away without remorse.
