Siobhan Beckett laid her son down in his crib and moved to the window. She inched back the curtain and let out the breathe she was not aware she had been holding at the three teenagers playing a noisy game of baseball. Shortly after Liam's birth eight weeks ago in the Resistance HQ, she and her son had been given a false identities and a great deal of money in exchange for her skrill, information regarding current Taelon activities, and things she was shown by Ha'gel.
Now she was Sara Katherine Corrigan, age 32, a newly hired security consultant for Mavis Industries and the mother of Liam Ronald Corrigan. On paper she appeared inconspicuous, and with the enhancements of her recently replaced CVI, and some help from a dialect coach, she was able to all but erase her accent. She had even dyed her distinctive red hair an ordinary shade of brown and wore contact lenses that gave her eyes the appearance of being hazel. She wore her make-up differently and altered her style of dress. Now Siobhan barely recognized herself in the mirror. She looked down at Liam and her expression softened, he was worth it.
It did bother her that her family had been told officially of her "death". Her funeral had made international news. As she replayed the clip of her mother crying silently beside her empty coffin, Siobhan promised herself she would find a way to tell her family the truth about her continued survival, about Liam. It would not be for some time, she had to stay out of sight for now, but the day would come.
