We've Got numbers on our Side

blue sky brown dirt yellow sun
leaves frozen into the ice of a michigan lake
timberwolves
spider webs
prostitutes
stand up comics
I am going to miss you.
pencil paper girls and boys
lipstick condoms nails and toys
rats and roaches
new york subway
chewing gum
silver diamond
aluminum
I am going to miss you

Wonderful lover
you shame the big bang with your light
bright ears blushing cheeks
kisses from the top of your head
to the toes of your feet
I am going to miss you
I need the smell of your body to linger after everything's gone
at least then I will have a place to lay down and call home
I will miss you and mourn you until my hands search my skin and come up empty.
Hands that once dripped and burned and dried
I will take our wetness and our ashes to the last field of grass.
And bury us like thick tangled weeds.
We will flourish while I will miss you.

Dogs salt candlesticks
minnows earthworms flies and ticks
saltwater grandmother january
piano cabinet yellow canaries
I will miss you
Enemies mountains songs and hair
prairies gumdrops coffee and beer
plates and shoes and soap and tears
gravestones mothers father daughters
friends anarchists liberals frogger
graveyards tombstones ankhs and crosses
baseball soccer wins and losses
potluck burlesque video poetry
comics novels  I will miss you
I will miss you
but fight to save you
from the murderer in the monkey suit
The Rights assassinator
The child killer
We will fight the texan emperor
for everything that is dirty
for everything that is pure
We will fight the mongrel of hate mongers
break each tooth from his jaw
catch him feeding blood on paws
We will face danger to protect danger
from becoming doom
We will embarrass him with our courage at high noon
Unarmed except with history and wounds
We will mass and form a human tidal wave
a billion person tsunami thought
He will shoot first and ask questions later
but remember
two texas colt patterson pistols only hold ten shots
we've got numbers on our side.
