Concept Attainment PowerPoint

This is an example of the Concept Attainment pedagogical model for 11th Grade US History using Microsoft's PowerPoint.

The Concept Attainment method was originally developed by Jerome Bruner to promote scaffolded yet creative and inquisitive ways for students to explore subject matter. In Concept Attainment, the teacher selects a concept but does not reveal that concept to the students. Instead, the teacher offers positive and negative examples of the concept, and then asks for student exmples. The teacher then tells the students which of their instances are examples of the concept and which are not.

As students begin to see the concept, they offer further positive examples, which helps those students who have not yet discovered the concept. Finally, the teacher reveals the concept and allows for student discussion.
