Explanation: My coure website demonstrates that I use technology to support my teaching, as it allows students to keep up with the work of the class in case of absence or misplaced materials. Email Address on Course Websites Standard: "Each candidate interacts with others using email and is familiar with a variety of computer-based collaborative tools" Explanation: Having my email address on my class pages shows that I interact via email and am ability to maintain electronic communications with students, parents, and colleagues. I have extensively communicated to parents and other teachers about particular students--in ways that only email allows. Online Biography Standard: "Each candidate is familiar with basic principles of operation of computer hardware and software, and implements basic troubleshooting techniques for computer systems and related peripheral devices before accessing the appropriate avenue of technical support." Explanation: This web page shows my experience with computer software and hardware and my ability to utilize quality software for educational purposes. Explanation: This link highlights my awareness of electronic research methods. I should also mention three key rules in determining the "authenticity, reliability, and bias of the data gathered" online: Consider who created the web site, find the date of the information and determine if any other electronic or printed sources consider this web site reputable Letter to Parents, Sample Excel Gradebook Standard: "Each candidate uses computer applications to manage records and to communicate through printed media." Explanation: I gave the letter to all of my students to show to their parents. It could not have come out as professionally-formatted without the use of MS Word. The gradebook demonstrates how MS Excel can be used to manage student records. Britain-Meidner Comparison Standard: "Each candidate examines a variety of current educational technologies and uses established selection criteria to evaluate materials, for example multimedia, Internet resources, telecommunications, computer-assisted instruction, and productivity and presentation tools" Explanation: This matrix, which used MS Word, and PowerPoint to feature a slide from from Google Images, shows my ability to use varied educational technologies. Cold War Ideologies Lecture Matrix Standard: "Each candidate chooses software for its relevance, effectiveness, alignment with content standards, and value added to student learning." Explanation: This matrix uses the table and image cut-and-paste features available on MS Word to create a sheet filled out by students. The point is to give students a meaningful way to understand the ideology behind the Cold War in order to allow them to meet California History-Social Science Standard 11.9: "Students analyze US foreign policy since World War II." |
