Making A Living

Paul Sanchez & Robert Moore, Jr.
1997 Paul Sanchez Music

When Raymond Had his second heart attack
The doctor said "Raymond you need to relax"
But he was a working man
He wasn't happy with idle hands

He said the standing in the railroad yard
The hours are brutal the work's so hard
I said "why don't you just go home"
He laughed and said "son you got to keep going"

And as he told me about his condition
I asked "what the hell are you doing here?"
He said "man I'm making a living and you can't call it living if you're living in fear"

I heard he died the other night
So ended a working man's life
He won't be coming back this time
The train he rode was at the end of the line

Home at dinner with my wife and kids
I wondered how he lived and died like he did
Wondered if I'm riding those rails
Is every drop of sweat from me just one more nail

And as he told me about his condition
I asked "what the hell are you doing here?"
He said "man I'm making a living and you can't call it living if you're livign in fear"

A week has come and gone since Raymond died
They gave his son his job its no easy ride
He wears his father's shirt
Says all Raymond left him was some clothes and the work

And as he told me about his condition
I asked "what the hell are you doing here?"
He said "man I'm making a living and you can't call it living if you're living in fear"
Can't call it living if your living in fear
You can't call it living if your living in fear
