| Oklahoma! was Rodgers and Hammerstein's first collaboration and remains, in many ways their most innovative. Oklahoma! is set in the early 1900's, in a western Indian territory that is to become the state of Oklahoma. A rugged, good-looking cowboy named Curly courts the charming farm girl named Laurey. While at the same time the intensely high-spirited competition between the local cowboys and the farmers, the new-comers to the territory, provides the setting for other love stories to evolve. The journey for all involved is as jolting as a ride through the country down a dirt road.
