PREMISE

Well, what can I say about this? I intended to make an actual series about this, with even plots for every issue/episode (episode?!! dream on... hehe). But then, I've the artistic aptitude of an elk, so wala akong napala. Still, i've those issue plots in my head, just waitin for them right artists to make them into reality (hint hint!)

SETTING

The setting is in a very much alternate universe. I've taken the liberty of calling the city where they live Antigua Manila (Ancient/Old Manila), and the period's a mix of  the Art Nouveau, Deco, and Digital eras. Imagine the colonial refinement and culture of New Orleans, meets the dark Deco of Gotham City. So the old culture and sophistication is retained, but hybridized with an advanced technology.

It does show how deprived I was during my kid years. Not to mention how great the influence our maids had on me. I remember being left in the afternoons in the mercy of (instead of having them siestas) them movies shown on local TV. Campy as they are, though, I admit that there's that secret charm that I see in them. Of course, I wouldn't dare admit this to anyone. hahaha

CHARACTERS

Siempre, there are the main characters of this, uh, well, bastardization of Philippine Cinema's belles. They are the seven : DARNA, DYESEBEL, GALEMA, ang babaeng may BLUSANG ITIM, MARIPOSA, and FAYE. Of course, I couldn't resist adding a character totally invented by moi. Thus, Gabriella. A, uh, well, mere mortal with gadgets galore, like Batman in Justice League.

Of course there are the, well, "normal" characters involved in their everyday lives, either as normal citizens of Nueva Manila, or as their more heroic selves.

The Seven:

Darna - Who doesn't know this gal from planet Marte or her alter ego Narda! For full details: www.marsravelodarna.com hehehe

Dyesebel - Originally a character from a fantasy-romance movie (and from comics of philippine yesteryears), i've revamped the character to a more hip, heroine gal. In the movie she has a shell that enables her to transform from her mer-form into one with legs. Well, that shell's now the pendant of the necklace she wears, and i've imbued it with certain aquatic powers that enables the wearer to have certain superhuman abilities. In this case, a great deal of aquakinesis, as well as dominion (with matching telepathy) over aquatic creatures, among others. Along with this, she has acquired the item "perlas ng papawirin" that enables her some form of flight. The pearl is nestled inside the coiled shell of her pendant.

Galema - The daughter of Zuma, the one with two snakes on his shoulders and invulnerability. She's in the 2nd movie, Zuma 2: Ang Anak ni Zuma. Here, she inherits her dad's abilities (invulnerability, venom). I've also taken that artistic liberty in adding some acidic blasts to her snakes. hehe Oh, and she loves her Harley. Cool biker chick. ;p

Blusang Itim- Remember this Snooky Serna 80's flick?! (from some research: there was also an oldies comic with this title) Its about an ugly girl (big nose, bushy eyebrows, zits galore) named Jessa Escrito, who found a black (tacky) dress in some new wave version of an ukay ukay. The dress magically transforms her into a lovely seductress. I've taken liberty of adding powers to the dress (as well as updating its fashion. In this alternate universe version, its now a little black dress). She can transform into anyone (morphing abilities) as well as into anything. The dress itself has a high level of physical mutability and invulnerablity, enabling the wearer to take any form (thus, enabling this gal flight, etc.) (inspired by the characters Inque in that batman beyond series, Marvels Venom, as well as a host of other characters)

Faye - Uh, remember Enteng's better half in that family TV show of our kiddie years, Okay ka Fairy Ko? well, same gal, same powers, less prissiness and that mother aura. She's a younger, more hip encantada here. Chlorateam rocks.

Mariposa - This one I really made over. I remember this female character from an old (80s to early 90s) flick. (portrayed by either Rita Avila or Christina Gonzales) She turned to a stripper after having crossed the path of a mafia-ish crime lord. She wears a mask in the shape of a butterfly, and calls herself mariposa. In this reality, though, I've turned her into a more intelligent, woman. lol. Part-time stripper, she's also a botanist and an entomologist, specializing in lepidopterans (ack. my geekoid self). She still, dons her mask, along with mechanical wings and blasts of sleep/paralyzing, etc. powder from her moth and butterfly research.

Phantom Lady - An heiress to a multi-billion fortune, stricken blind by some mysterious ailment. Her Kankanai nanny brings the girl to the nanny's ancestral tribal lands, and seeks the help of the local babaylan. Babaylan gives the girl a mask that'll enable her to see, with the girl vowing to aid in upholding justice shit (camp factor). Historically (at least in film), Phantom Lady appeared in the big screen as Vilma Santos during the 70s. The setting was the Japanese Occupation era, and the Lady's alter ego was a blind girl granted the capability (once again) of sight, by a magic mask given to her by an old woman. In a very Zorro-like fashion, she acts as a vigilante and helps Filipinos from oppression by the Japanese, using weapons like the bolas, whip, sword, etc.

The Villains:

Valentina - Nemesis of Darna. If ya dun know her, well, the internet is a vast resource. lol. :P

Babaeng Lawin (Armida) - From the original darna flick, I've given her those archangel wings (which she also uses to shield her self). Superior flight abilities. I've also read that in the Darna movie, she terrorizes a village by burning their roofs. Well, I've given her that hip torch, making her a formidable foe, and giving her a form reminiscent of Hawk Girl of Justice League fame.

Planet Women - Women from planet Arko out to invade our very own Gaea. Weird hair colour and, uh, distinct accents make for a wacky bunch of villains. Hehe

Babaeng Tuod - Tree She-demon (Lucilla)

Lei Ming - Formidable Sorceress from Ongppin. (I'll do some more research on her)

Sundang - Totally invented. Inspired by that assassin character in that game Diablo, though. Babaylan and warrior of the headhunting (bagobo?!) tribes of the South, she has high martial arts abilities, a mid-level telekinetic, as well as good with blades of all sorts. She uses telekinesis and her weapons for that maximum fighting prowess.

Nieves - Freon gurl. lol. Scientist in some refrigerator company, bad experiment with cold fusion results in this girl that beats iceman anytime! Aside from controlling and creating different forms of ice, she has the ability to turn into a vapour-like form, that enables her to pass through solid stuff. Oh, and I thought about this waay before that Ruffa Mae character in the recent Captain Barbell flick. Besides mine has a more Filipino touch to it. hehe

Alitaptap - Being a theoretical scientist and metaphysicist certainly gives certain occupational character. :D She has virtual fireflies, that enables her to control pockets of light and transmute them into certain rips in time-space, thereby making light solid, and dimensional. Coolness. inspired by the virtual unicorns of Madeleine L'Engle (again the geekoid in me...)

Valentine - Totally invented as well. Valentina-ish character, but has a lesser rank in that snake pantheon. She has hair ending in a huge singualar serpent.

Odona - Totally invented. Dragonfly girl, can achieve extreme speed in flight, can make whirlwind blasts.

Ningas - Firewoman

Idlip - Totally invented. Sleep witch, part-fairy, part babaylan.

Bolo - Totally invented. Sowrdsman. Weilds a massive sword. Can make blasts shit from the force of swinging his sword. Much like that character from Ruronin Kenshin with the big sword. Works at times with Sundang.

Hibla - Girl imbued with anti-matter shit. Her keratin reserves exude her powers. She uses her hair, when a strand's plucked from the whole, as a weapon, repelling anything coming into contact with it.

Zuma - Galema's dad, green, with big pythons on his shoulders. Very strong, immune to bullets. Eats virgins' hearts. (he'd have a hard time finding victims nowadays, though. har har)

Undin - from that regal shocker flick, water being.

Tala Woman of the distant stars. Pursued by mysterious race of Taong Bulalakaw.

Halimaw sa Banga Yet nuther creature from a horror flick of 80s cinema. Actually, from what I recall, shes actually a witch imprisoned inside the huge jar because of her misdeeds.

Impakta Manananggal. Miss Luna. Teacher by day, aswang by night.

Luka Evil fairy queen, nemesis of fayes Mom, Magenta.

Moita Yet another evil fairy.
