While we don't have a bunny as a member of our family right now, in the past I have (or rather my sister got and I looked after) rabbits. They are sweet loving creatures and live a long time when well cared for.
We do have Waldo in the family, a female brown and white lop bunny who is a little tempermential but a nice bunny! She lives with John's nephew and is of unknown age.. possible 5-7 years old.

Often the Ottawa Humane Society [OHS] has a number of bunny that have been turned in (or sometimes found stray) for adoption. Sometimes they are given up because they "got too big" or "the kid no longer wants them" and exspecialy around easter "was given as a gift and [since its no longer a baby] is unwanted".
Because most people don't know that the rabbits are at the shelter seeking a home they stay longer and the shelter often sends them to the pet shops who work with the shelter in placing animals. However older bunnies have a harder time finding a home even if they are sweet and well sociolized!!
There is a small local rescue group that takes rabbits sometimes but because of the large number given to her she is often unable to take on the large number entering the shelter. (aug.26.01) Right now we have at least 8 rabbits at the shelter waiting to go up for adoption!
Later I hope to list the bunnies here looking for homes and also provide some information about rabbits. If you are in the Ottawa, On, Canada area and are able to foster a rabbit, contact me and I will put you in touch with the local rabbit rescue group who are (like the OHS with cats and dogs) always in need of foster homes
