I know you hear about goat�s milk soap a lot. The most outstanding reason that people choose a goat's milk soap is because of the butterfat content in the milk. Of the mammals that produce milk for human consumption, goat's milk is second only to the reindeer in butterfat content. It is this fat that makes the soap so luxurious and helps to clean the skin without stripping it of it's natural emollients.
Without getting too technical, lets look into what makes goat's milk soap so special as opposed to any other soap.
What makes goat's milk different is that it is naturally homogenized, meaning it has smaller fat particles which remain suspended in solution, unlike cow's milk which separates easily. Also, goat's milk has more fat and less water than cows milk. This creates a wonderfully rich and moisturizing soap. Goat's milk soap has a pH level that is closer to the skin's own pH levels so goat's milk soap is extraordinarily gentle, even to sensitive skin. In addition, the alpha-hydroxy acids found in milk have rejuvenating and softening properties.
The butterfat in the milk is good for your skin, it softens and it moisturizes. Milk contains butterfat, water, lactose (milk sugar), casein (proteins) and salts. Goat's milk contains over 50 nutrients, including the vital vitamins A, C, B1, B6, B12 and E, many essencial minerals, amino acids, citric acid, unsaturated fatty acid, enzymes and many other nutrients that nourish and revitalize dehydrated skin. In particular, Vitamin A slows down the effects of aging and prevents brown spots and thickening of the skin, while Zinc contributes to the reconstruction of collagen fibers, encouraging moisture retention and assisting in maintaining your skin's elasticity.
I also add additional oils including olive oil, which is a very good moisturizer, not because it has its own healing properties, but because it attracts external moisture, holds it close to the skin, and forms a breathable film to prevent loss of internal moisture. In addition, olive oil does not block the natural function of the skin. Milk soaps in general create a richer, creamier lather and they are soothing to sensitive or irritated skin. They help skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema, and they also help balance the oils in your skin.
Q. Why do homemade soaps like yours cost so much more than store bought soaps? It seems like a lot of money for a bar of soap.
A. Take a look at the label on a bar of store bought soap the next time you buy some. Chances are it's mostly a lot of unpronounceable chemicals. My soaps are made from all natural oils and are free of dyes. The oils that make up my soap all possess qualities which have been proven to improve the health of your skin. Also, my homemade soap lasts much longer in the shower than store bought soaps. Try it yourself and see, you'll never go back to store bought soaps again.
My soaps are dye, and preservative free. They are made with no animal fats (like tallow), which tend to clog the pores. They contain LOTS of moisturizing goat's milk.
