American Poets -- Wallace Stevens

Murderous Wind
A suffocating wind
Engulfed
the house
Choked
crimson love bland
Strangled
purple passion sand.
Cruel
breath’s blast with killing gale
Struck
hueless-
Desire,
love, and reason.
Leaving
the undead-
Indifference,
banality, insanity
In
its grim and colorless wake.
