More Blackwork Samples...
Below is the pattern on how to do the design down below. This pattern is from the neck cuff off of the Earl of Moray, half brother to Mary Queen of Scots.
Above is Jane Seymour's lace cuff from her portrait in 1536.
To the right is an example of a blackwork sampler.  Samplers were commonly long and thin, showing many designs for ladies to learn.
These are two examples from the Elizabethan Blackwork Archives.
These blackwork motifs were originally found on Jane Bostocke's sampler, which is the oldest surviving English sampler dated 1598.
