Native American:
The High Desert
When women see others wearing a new style, they have to have it too.  Native American women were no different.
These dresses are simple, based on the letter T they have one seam over the shoulder, and one from the under arm to hem.  In recognition of Lewis and Clark's gifts of ribbon several were documented with grograin ribbon accenting the bodice, hem, or sleeve area.  In the Washington and Idaho areas there wasn't much ribbon left, so contrasting cloth strips were used to give the illusion of ribbon.
It was common for women to wear leggins with their dresses to hide their legs from man and beast.
T dresses use 3 yds of cloth and costs start at $15.00
Leggins use 1 yd of cloth and costs start at $5.00
Costs vary due to material charges,

These dresses come from my daughter's collection.  The green dress is a Taos dress.  The one I want to pay attention to is her wool dress.
This dress is heavily decorated with shells, beads, and bells.  It took  me two months to assemble all of the parts.  We attached a red "front" to the dress awaiting the time when her husband gets here a deer's tail to add to the beauty.

Wool dresses were needed due to the colder winters we have in the Eastern part of Washington state.  These dresses mirrored the hide dresses worn in the Plains.  This particular style is a two hide dress.  One hide was used for the front and one for the back.  Since I am larger than my daughter I would need a three hide, the third would go over the shoulders and connect to the front and back hides.  In this area, during the fur trade era there were not large deer, it took three hides of smaller deer to make even a child's dress.
The trade wool dress without decoration start at $100 due to material costs.

I don't want to leave the men out.  Your dress was very easy.  The men wore cotton drop sleeve shirts, breech clouts, leggins, and sashes or belts.  When they wanted to show off their fineary they went back to their war shirts of hide, ect....Since the costs of a man's outfit vary due to the fabric preferred, please email for prices.
Pictured here is a capote, or blanket coat.  These are made from Hudson Bay, Whitney blankets in the same style and method used in the fur trade era.  These coats are warm and durable since the blankets are 100% wool.  Our machine sewn coats start at $175. and hand sewn start at $195.

The youth of this time period were dressed just like their parents. Therefore, this young lady in a tan patterned T style dress is perfectly correct for our region.
