Women's Styles: How to put it together and look correct 1820-1840
The demands on Women traveling to Oregon were evident in their clothing. The styles had to be functional as well as accomodating to the trail. This is a wonderful example of a Prarie Dress, dating 1830. The cloth is also important since it is from the Smithsonian Quilt collection, documented for the same time frame.
Taos, a place where the mountain man would take off and go find a wife. These tough women were elegant in their dressing and the Teal Green dress with the White lace is a great example. Next to it is a Trade Wool dress with bead, shell and bell work. All of these dresses can be reproduced for you.
