Chieveley - and the WINTER family
The WINTER family appear to have lived in Chieveley for centuries, seemingly as labourers.

His sister Jane married William HAMBLING and one of their daughters, Sarah, lived with Charles and his family in 1851 and is listed on the census as a lodger and their niece. Charles and Jane's siblings are Thomas, John, William, Joseph, Harriet and Ann, born (approx) between 1808 and 1818.
Charles WINTER married Lucy ?? in Chieveley in the 1840's. They had at least 5 children - Hannah, Harriet Ann, Henry Charles, Isaac and Thomas and lived at Greenlane when Harriet was born. In the 1881 census, Charles and Lucy were living at
Hannah WINTER born c.1845 married Samuel MERSOM or MENSOME, who had died by 1881. They had no known children.
Harriett Ann WINTER born c.1850 married Richard DANCE in 1871 at Reading. They migrated to Australia aboard the "Indus", landing in Queensland in 1873 after their daughter Lydia was born during the voyage. They stayed for 2 years before going to South Australia where they had their 3 other children, Hettie, Dick and Maud. After 13 years, they moved to Broken Hill in outback NSW.
Henry Charles WINTER born c.1852 married Elizabeth RUMBLE in 1875. They had at least 6 children, Edwin, Albert C, Ernest, William, James, Nora E and Albert Thomas known as Tom. I have a photo of William taken in Malta (presume during WW1) and one of Tom in his WW1 Army uniform in someone's backyard. Contact with anyone from this family would be very welcome!
Isaac WINTER born c.1855 is so far untraceable.
Thomas WINTER born c.1857 married Mary BAILEY. No children are known at this time.

Maidenhead - The DANCE family, and who exactly are they, and where have they gone?
William DANCE (born c.1826 in Maidenhead) married Lydia BAKER (born c.1830 in Bray), presumably during the 1840's. Their son Richard is listed in the 1851 census as is his brother William, born only just before the census was taken. No other information is known about the family, except for Richard, my great, great grandfather. He married Harriett Ann WINTER (see above) and migrated to Australia. After Harriett died of typhoid in 1889, he remarried to Priscilla WARD and when he retired, moved from Broken Hill in outback NSW to Sydney.
