In the Women's race the Saturn women covered attacks until a break of five with Saturn's Lynn Bessette permanently established itself about the halfway point of the race. The break kept a fairly hard pace which eventually dropped two women leaving Bessette with Tina Mayolo-Pic (Diet Rite) and Helen's Dara Rogers. The threesome worked together, gaining nearly a minute on the field by the last lap. It was Mayolo of the new Diet-Rite Team jumping first out of the last turn with 250 meters to go for the win over Bessette and Rogers.
It was, in all, a spectacular opening day of National Racing Calendar (NRC) racing action.
