Music has always been a prt of my life, although sadly has become less since I chose not to study it at university. However that does not diminish my appreciation of it at all. I began on the piano (or keyboard as it was before we actually bought a piano) and the recorder before progressing to the flute. Eventually, during early high school, I was introduced to the bassoon which has become MY instrument. I have also played baritone saxophone in various ensembles. I have performed in jazz bands, including under the direciton of the fabulous and inspirational Gil Askey, in pit orchestras for musicals, chamber groups and in various orchestras.
The highlight of my musical career was the 1998 Melbourne Youth Orchestra Tour of North America including our participation at the International Festival of Youth Orchestras in beautiful snowy Banff. A second highlight was the International Music Camp, in North Dakota, which I attended way back in Year 9!
My bassoon playing has been revived since moving to Canberra mid-2004 thanks to my participation in the Canberra Community Orchestra. This excellent orchestra has given me the chance to renew my playing, and in my short time as a member we have played some challenging and beautiful music.
