| One of the most stunning features of Indonesia is the country's volcanoes. On the east end of Java is the spectacular Gunung Bromo.This live volcano is stunning, best viewed at sunrise. I travelled to Java with my Balinese friend Desak, and stayed with some friends of hers. In turn, they took us to stay with their friends who live near Bromo. | One of the best things about travelling with locals in Indonesia is that you are guaranteed best prices for everything. So to make our journey shorter, we hired horses to take us across the volcanic plain to the crater. The colours of the sunrise were simply incredible. As it grew lighter the mist rose and the view from the still-smoking crater was just magical. |
