Women's pay 'key to child poverty'

Who needed a new report to tell us this? Engels said it over 100 years ago. Mohammad Yunus, the Bangladeshi economist turned micro credit banker, has been saying it for years.

There's no point in paying a bunch of men a lot of money to produce such a report when nothing is going to change. No British employer is suddenly going to start paying women a higher wage. We had an Equal Pay Act in 1970 and it has caused no improvement whatsoever in the differential between men and women's pay in this country which adheres so very firmly to its Victorian value of keeping women in their - third-class citizen - place.
