Last
year for the first time, fathers from every region of the United
States met in Washington, DC, in a rally called ACry
for the Children.@
While many fathers= groups declared this rally a failure, it was in fact a moderate
success. This was, after
all, the first time in history that fathers= rights activists had ever met in a group of over 100 people in
Washington, DC. We had an
excellent acoustic system provided by a business person specializing
in electronics. The
keynote speakers were well-known activists including the star of the
film AHome
Alone.@
There were activists from as far away as Alaska, and also
California, Florida and most states of the Union.
This year, the Father=s Day 2000 committee expects more.
After all, the Elian saga has fueled the father=s
rights fire. No matter where you stand politically, this was a story about
a father and son who were kept apart in classical parental alienation,
the kind millions of fathers experience daily when their ex=s
block visitation, accusing them of being abusive when in fact most of
them are loving parents. There
will be a group of activists from Lancaster and other counties
attending this year=s
rally. For
those who still feel discouraged by lost battles, I would point out
that enormous progress has already been made in the last 5 years.
Politicians now nod toward fathers=
rights activists. In
fact, Clinton and Reno have briefly stood under this banner, as
ill-fitting as it may be for them. We urge you to join us on June 18th at the Ellipse behind the White House. Call (717) 252-9835 for details or contact LYNCUP at [email protected]. Click here to learn more about the march in Washington.
