Lam Kee - We are Lam Kee

Rating: *****5

This is Lam Kee's first EP, aptly named "We are Lam Kee" to introduce themselves to the public. Who are they, you might ask? Are they the same as LMF? No, I don't think so. Lam Kee certainly have its own style and creativity. So, what is the difference between the two of them. Noticeably, those DJ stuff like spinning and scratching is absent here. Lam Kee places more emphasize on hard-core rock to get their message across. You could say they are a hard- core rock/ rap band. It is refreshing to see more bands from Hong Kong. We certainly need a better variety of music to bring growth to the way we see music as a whole.

Track is my favourite track in this album. It is full of anger and teen rebellion nature. Part of the lyrics reads "From childhood, I do not know myself. My dad says whatever, and that's it....Force me to become a doctor, force me to become a lawyer, whatever my ambition, he wouldn't wanna know. I am your son...., you teach me not to judge a book by its cover. Looking at my friends, can u really see them thoroughly? They dye their hair, u say they have no future. They wear ear ring, u say they must be selling pirated stuff. No matter what, you wouldn't believe us that they are good people. They must be bad guys, is it? Because of that, you would not let us become friends. Does that mean if a person has mustache, then he must be your father? Whatever also cannot. Is that the way? Whatever also not allowed. Is that the way? Whatever also do not hear. Is that the way?"

Track sounds just as hard but with a more cheerful and witty mood. Half way of the track there is a bridge which says "there is no news". On a softer and relax tone is track . Part of the lines reads, "We have done this and done that, but still we like music the best. If u like something, then please don't just sit around. Wait for fate? Why not think of an idea and go for it with all your heart, no matter you are a Filipino or Westerner. I have a dream."

Communicating the message of "Recycling" and "Protecting the Environment" is track . Part of their lyrics reads, "Don't always presume recycling is troublesome. Actually it is only a habit.....you have a role to play also, don't say it is not your problem. Recycle, reuse, reduce. Try to start it and live is beginning."

This is an album not be missed for fans of Cantonese hard- core/ hip hop rock.
