F.I.R- The Fairyland in Reality (Released in 2004)
Rating: ****4
F.I.R., a Taiwan group formed in 2002. My first impression of this group was oh my! the Taiwanese version of Japanese's Do As Infinity (DAI). Can't agree more. Some songs, particularly "Fly Away", certainly strikes a slight resemblance to DAI's style of music. The J-pop rock factor. Nevertheless, it never stops me from loving this song. After all, I am a DAI fan! In DAI, we have Van Tomiko. In here, we have Faye, who happens to be the lead female vocal in F.I.R. Take note. No whatsoever connections to Faye Wong!
My favourites are:-
1) Track 3 "Lydia" - The song is always played on the radio air waves. Without this promotional song on the radio, I might not know this group.
2) Track 6 "Guang Mang" - the most rock number in this album, I guess.
3) Track 8 "Your Smile" - Faye's style of singing in this song kinda reminds me of Jolin Tsai's pop songs. Who says pop is dead?? Or should I say pop rock??
The background rap vocals in "Revolution" on the other hand, is sloppy and weak. The intention is good. But unfortunately, it fails to sail out as a full-fledged hip-hop rock track. I would rather just stick to Iron Bamboo's music to quench my hip-hop flavour thirst.
For those who love ballades, they can check out Track 4 "Liu Lang Zhe Zi Ge".
The hearing ends here. So, now the verdict. Half of the songs in the album are good. DAI fans can check them out. But the risk stays with you. You either love them or hate them.
