Edison, Hanjin & MC Yan - Please Steal This Album (Released in 2004)
Rating: ****4
So far, this could be Edison's best album. One could easily forget about all his previous albums. And the main reason I am reviewing this album is because MC Yan (from LMF) is lending a hand here. And also not to forget the presence of Hanjin. I am sure Edison is having a hard time in gaining MC Yan's trust to collaborate with him. Roping in MC Yan and Hanjin to produce this album, Edison is ceratinly not making a mistake. If it is, it would be the public's lack of music appreciation. Never before Malaysia's radio airwaves played Edison's songs so often as now. You can almost hear his song being played everyday. Huh...talk about the power of hip-hop. Hopefully, this album would exudes a sense of refreshing air to the suffocating HK music scene.
My favourite track here is "War". This song, no doubt, brings out the Jay Chou factor. Hanjin and MC Yan raps professionally well. The messages goes, " In this world, in some corners, there will be war happening. Everyone is invovled. Everyone has aggression in heart. But nobody likes to see death. Nobody likes to be a war correspondent."
Whereas Track 13 "U Like Me" takes a totally different direction, going into techno + pop + rap. Nevertheless, the song's beats and tempo never stops to impress me.
Track 8 "HK" is not bad too. It feels so good to hear Hanjin rap in this song. Besides that, I also love MC Yan's lines when he sings "If we are born here, we should expect to die here.... I rap the police, I rap the govenment.... There's no need to be afraid of starting all over again. If u want some space to stand on, firstly, u must hang on."
In Track 5 "Wake Up", if u listen carefully, u might realize there's a verse in there which sounds in a slight resemblance to "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star".
Overall, there are 4 songs in this album which I like. Others are just not my taste. Track 11 (featuring Eric Kwok/ Ip Pui Man) starts off melodic but lacks in the bridge and ends terribly. Track 6 "Scared" sounds extremely like Taiwan boy group "Energy". This album could have been given a rating of 5 stars if it was being released as an EP with 4 songs.
