his own. In 1862 he became a member of Company B,113th Illinois Infantry.He 
was mustered into service at Chicago and the first battle in which he 
participated was at Arkansas Post. It was here he took sick and was moved 
to the hospital at St. Louis where he remained for almost a year,ill with 
typhoid fever.On November 14,1864 he received an honorable discharge and 
returned to farming in Iroquois Co.,Illinois. JOHN D. ASH was a democrat 
and served as School Director and Road Commissioner.

   Birthday,reads as follows:
George M. Bauer Celebrates
 Four Score and Ten Years

Is Hale and Hearty
       at age 90

   George M. Bauer was guest of honor at a dinner at the home of his son,
Charles last Sunday. The occasion was in celebration of Mr. Bauer's 90th 
birthday,and was attended by relatives and friends.

   Mr. Bauer was born in a log cabin,a few miles east of Pittwood on 
January 13,1852. At that time there were no roads or railroads in this part 
of the country.Grain had to be hauled to Walden,now Arona park,Kanakee Co. 
There the grain was ground into meal or flour.

  All his life has been spent in Iroquois Co. He worked in the vicinity of 
Wellington for a number of years when he was a young man. Mr BAUER was 
married March 28,1878,to HANNAH LYMAN,daughter of pioneers of the LYMAN 
settlement. He farmed for many years in the pittwood area.

   Retiring from the farm in 1921, he moved to his present home at 219 
Yount Avenue,Watseka,Illinois. Mrs. bauer passed away 1n 1936, and since 
that time Mr. Bauer has lived alone, doing his own cooking and house work. 
He is in excellent help, and his friends are wishing him many more happy 
birthdays.

   Children of Mr. Bauer are Albert L. of Woodland;Charles E. of 
Watseka;Mrs. Porter Martin,Watseka and Mrs. Forrest Gannon of Blue
