Indiana Jones and the infernal machine can be considered as Lucasarts cashing on the success of Tomb Raider. After all, Indiana Jones is the original tomb raider. The game starts off rather abruptly, not even a nice intro. And the music is not in full ochestra. Also, you do not fight with Nazi's but Soviets instead. With so many inconsistencies even before playing, I wonder how can I complete this game ?
The first thing you'll notice when you first start playing this game is that the controls are almost similar to tomb raider. But there are some unique features that only Indiana jones posses and that is his bullwhip, which is very useful in this game as it is used to cross over obstacles.
However, the gunplay is very disappointing. Maybe because I was so impressed with Lara Croft's shooting style. Although Indiana jones has his revolver, he is not as athletic as Miss Croft. The most he can do is roll over and shoot. Other than that, the gunplay is basically just standing still and exchanging gunfire. Indiana Jones can also use his fists but I doubt you will be using it because your revolver has unlimited ammo.
How about the gameplay ? Well, if you enjoyed the same key searching and puzzle elements found in the tomb raider series, you might enjoy this game. There are a few tough puzzles as well as easy ones. And like the Indiana Jones trilogy, you'll travel to various places around the world in search of artifacts.
Another feature, though not entirely original, is that you get to ride on jeeps (which can be used to ram on animals and soviets) and inflatable boats to travel by river. There is also a level in the game where Indiana Jones gets to use the coal miner's vehicle just like in the film (Indiana Jones and the temple of doom).
In short, if you want more action and adventure, give this game a try.

In Indiana Jones and the emperor's tomb, they finally got it right. Part action, part adventuring and part beat 'em up, the game is fun to play right till the end.
The basic features are still the same :Indiana Jones still uses his bullwhip to cross over caverns and obstacles, and engages in fistfights that are so part of the Indiana Jones films. This time, the fighting has improved dramitacally. Auto-targeting is enabled when using weapons and fistfights are one of the highlights of the game.
There are a few special moves that Indiana Jones can execute. For example headlock and knocking enemies against the wall to make them unconcious. He can even pick up various objects (chair, table leg, wine bottle) and use them as weapons.
Also in some levels, you'll also get to use mounted machine guns to shoot enemies and planes. There are also some rail-shooting on vehicles (meaning that you can only shoot, but not control the vehicle).
Another major change is the save system. Instead of allowing you to save anytime, saves are only made between levels. This is both good and bad. Good because it makes the game more challenging, bad because if you die, you have to start the level all over again. Fortunately, the levels throughout the game are small.
The only problem that I can find is that the final level boss is too easy to kill.(After all the difficult and deadly traps and platforms, I would expect the end level boss to be equally challenging). In short, with different varieties of gameplay, this game is fun to play. Highly recommended to anyone.

Pros  : Fun gameplay, simple puzzles
Cons : save system may frustrate some gamers
Year : 2003
Genre : 3rd person Action Adventure
System Requirements : 733Mhz, 128MB RAM, 16MB graphic card
Rating :
If you enjoyed this game, try : Tomb Raider 1 - 6
