| Kylee is now in Samoa (as at 8 July), working for the Animal Protection
Society and the Samoan Government. Together with one other vet, a
Japanese girl, she is veting the local animals and also helping educate the
local population in animal care. They are the only vets in independent
Samoa, and as a result very busy, but also somewhat makeshift, for example
operating outside on "baby changing tables". They do all outcalls,
(since they don't have a surgery)! She is enjoying it so far, early
days yet of course. Gets paid on a "voluntary service" pay scale, ie
very little. It sounds as though the weather, water, and local ex-pats,
will make it exciting and memorable!
Jenny leaves 22 August for Tokyo for a year to teach English, so
then we will be Darby and Joan saving our pennies to go tripping!
Expanded the animal population by two Border Collie pups, not black
and white but cream and white. Unique sisters! Also had a tri-colour
kitten march in (well practically) and take over, much to Smudges annoyance
(29/7/00 unfortunately had to be put down). The aviary (20m x 10m) is now
complete but very empty with just Kylee's rainbow lori, two canaries and
one quail.
Recently had our first good hoar frost since we moved in. It's
still pretty fresh and the dam has a fair coverage of thin surface ice just
to add to the chill factor. Looking forward to spring.
