I have always had this motto that "people are stupid." This does include myself you can see and this small three worded motto can answer almost any crazy unexplainable situation on earth.

"Why is there war?"

"Why do I tan?"

"Why do some people smoke while biking?"

"Why do I drive like a maniac with 20 pregnant women in the back seat and yet I never get caught?"

"How come women shave their legs and armpits?"

"Why were there slaves?" This one would change the motto to "people are extremely stupid and cruel beings that should be shot."

I don't know why people are stupid but we are certainly not the most intelligent creatures. Even Einstein didn't know what a comb was for for crying out loud! Animals are always made fun of and yet they are pretty intelligent. Cats wash themselves, dolphins have their own language, dog's noses can smell anything in Timbuktu- and everyone says that pigs are really smart.

I have determined two categories that make us pretty damn dumb. First of all the things that we do, and second, the things that we say.

We stick objects in places they really don't need to be. Q-tips for example. It feels really good but how is that treating your eardrum? You are scaring the crap out of your eardrum which is why you end up cleaning them in the first place. Cigarettes in the mouths, drugs up the arms, and alcohol knocking on the liver's door. And if it isn't foreign objects it is girls who cannot control their desire and end up pregnant. As if our bodies weren't already confused with hormones and the digesting of food!

If we aren't poking things into us or exposing our bodes to UV rays, we are worrying or stressing about dumb stuff. My grandmother, for example, needs something to worry about or I'm positive she just won't feel normal. She is not stupid because of the things she actually does but rather the things that could happen that could end up just horrible. This then conjures up that grandmotherly gasp- "Oh,my!"

What is so ironical about all these problems that we do have is that they are usually pretty controllable. I can not count how many times I have seen or heard a overweight person eat three hamburgers after saying-" Yeah I am really trying to lose weight." Sure even my head has said- "Hey I really don't need this donut but hey I can lose weight whenever I want." The things we tell ourselves are backwards. We are extremely hypocritical as human beings.

But besides the mental games we play there are some things that can not go unnoticed as pure stupidity especially to a Target worker. People stand outside our store waiting for us to open on Sundays when we have just received ten bizillion calls asking when we will open. Apparently they really want something we have or just thought they heard us say 11:30. It is about as whacked as this new thing to drink water out of bottles. It has suddenly become cool to be a baby I guess. And of course I mock myself in this observation.

Our race is just a bunch of sheep with trends as our shepherds which to me even adds more to our stupidity. We follow what is cool. Generation Xers (this label is questionable to me) are prime examples of this because they (know I am talking of those with no direction of their own) are the ones tattooing themselves, drinking and smoking and wanting to buy Volkswagon vans to travel everywhere with. Another scary thought is this new thing called cloning. The High One Above is really testing us with this technology. We could end up with five of the wrong person and all become Nazi's again but we always have to take things to the edge -Like wearing sandals in zero degree weather.

Some of the things we say (besides what we say to ourselves) are even more ridiculous. For example the lying that happens daily. "Am I fat?" "What do you really think?" And my favorite quotes found in relationships- "Can we just be friends?" or "You are too nice." How come we aren't more honest? I admit I am not either,but why? To save others from reality? Can people see how stupid that is. "Oh you really aren't nice, I just can't stand your possessiveness- Have a nice day!" Once again I am in Target recalling being asked fifteen times one day where the bathroom was when I wasn't maybe two feet away from the sign.

Let us go to a place where we are suppose to learn and become smart - what is said in schools that is quite stupid? I have recently seen a cute cartoon showing the four different stages in a person's education and in the first three boxes (preschool, elementary, and highschool) the teacher is constantly saying- "Shut up and sit down" whereas in the last cube the professor at the university is confused and says- "I wonder why students don't talk more in class?" And this, I bet, happens daily! Another quote from my school days still puzzles me. I had wanted to know how to spell a certain hard word and the teacher told me to look it up. Well if I don't even know how to pronounce it how the hell can I look it up? Good question isn't it?

We humans are some of the most stupid, selfish, and hypocritical beings on this earth and yet we rule it. We all are able to control our destinations but we do not take a moment and think about what we are saying and what we are doing, we just go on like zombies following that shepherd car ahead of us leading us into the city of nothingness.

We need to return to faithfulness, if not to some higher power source, then to ourselves and our fellow humans. Sharing the planet, fighting for the feeling of having a pure contented soul, and living and learning rather than following should be on our agenda daily.
