So you're interested in joining the Dragon Ryders. Here the general rules for getting that process started will be listed.

  • First of all, you must obviously be interested. You likely wouldn't be here unless you were at least curious of the process anyway. It's not a requirement that you know anything about Pern or Pernese dragons, but it's helpful. Most of the dragons in the Ryders aren't even Pernese and it would likely be something too much to hope for to have all of them as such. There is a considerably amount of information on this website detailing at least some of the basics of what you should know for being part of the Dragon Ryders. Though it hardly needs to be said, it's helpful if choose to play either a dragon or a rider before anything else.

  • Now that that's established, you'll need to have something to show you're able to RP, and fairly well at that. Whether this is a saved RP or just a short little story you typed out, it doesn't really matter. This is all about seeing how well you can put ideas down, and how well you can communicate thoughts and how well you understand what's going on. This doesn't have to have anything to do with a/your character for the Ryders (dragon or rider), though that would probably be a good idea. Also, this doesn't need to be any certain length, as long as it's reasonable. It can be short, it can be long, just as long as it gets a good sample of your ability to RP down for us to see.
This should be sent to one of the Dragon Ryders, preferably Lyana or Jen. Lyana can be contacted through email if necessary. What you send in will then be judged by those of the Ryders and we'll get back to you as soon as a decision has been made.

  • Assuming you receive the favor of the majority on your RP sample, the next step can be taken. If you've chosen to play a rider, then you can either introduce the character as a candidate or have him/her Impressed by a dragon that's already around and has no rider yet. If you've chosen to play a dragon, you have the choice of either starting from a Hatchling (Elenboreth started from an egg even) or any age as long as you have legitimate RP to go along with it. NOTE: some dragons have had to wait quite a while because they chose to start from a Hatchling and there were no available candidates to Impress. Just a few more things to think about at the initial stage before applying.

We look forward to hearing from you!
