Commish Report

Week 2 - September 7, 2002

 

Last week the theme was "more of the same", and this week the song remains the same with one notable exception.  Beaudin (4-6) is still good (see last paragraph) Barfly (4-6) and myself (4-6) are still very ugly, but Dave Jones (7-3)? Who is this Dave Jones?  I will kick his ASS.  We all know the formula.  Dave Jones, Sweet T and Macgruder fight it out for last place all season until Dave Jones goes to the whip in about week 11 and wins two out of the last three to break even.  I guess there's no Macgruder to hold him back anymore, and Hampster Balls is doing a horrible ass clown impersonation so far, so guess who is left behind.  That's right.  My fucking horse won't even go into the gate.  As a loser, I'm rivaled only by that kid Ricky in Better Off Dead; I could not be any more without peer in this competition.  Even Jeny likes to say each weekend now "you're not very good at this are you."  DO NOT POKE THE CAGED ANIMAL PLEASE.

 

Well Dave Jones winning $250 is quite the surprise, and frankly I'm not very happy about it.  Beaudin put it best when he said that LYA members are usually happy when Dave Jones pulls his shit out at the end of the year because they are kind of pulling for him by then.  Well not me then and certainly not me now.  The only reason people were happy about Dave Jones winning in prior years is that it meant some jackass like Beaudin or Pops isn't just adding to his total.  Honestly, the pool members would rather Sadam Hussein win than have the winner piling on at the end of the year.  Nothing, I repeat, nothing breeds contempt like success.  And any of you out there reading this thinking, "man, he's bitter", you're goddam right I am.  Well look in the mirror pal.  I am one hundred percent certain that I've heard from every member in this pool at some point except maybe for Hampster Balls "I just don't want Beaudin to win again."

 

The problem right now is that it's just too early to tell.  Is this the Dave Jones who when you see that he doubled the opposite of two of your games, you think "sweet!"? (Another direct quote from multiple LYA members).  Or is Dave Jones this year's Beaudin/Pops aka Evil Genius?  Is he the same bumbling Thursday night game, double the Dawgs, SEC/ACC, always pick against Tech fool that we've come to know and love?  Or is he about to take $200 off of each and every one of you, except for the $300 he takes off me.  We've got twelve more weeks to figure that out, but I suggest that until we do you treat Dave  Jones with the same disgust and disrespect that you would for any winner not associated with your cause (e.g. Steve Spurrier at Florida).

 

And by the way, in case you were thinking of letting your guard down against Beaudin, he did win $120 in the 7&7 teaser this weekend courtesy of the MIRACLE Oklahoma finish and the fine hands in the end zone by not one but two Falcons receivers.  Oh yeah, there's plenty of contempt to go around.
