Friday, October 1, 2004 - 8-ish (AM)     -     Mike and Tanya's house, Cairndale, Australia

I just started to write when Eryn and Aidan came into my room.  I'll have to write later.  Eryn wants to write something in my journal, and of course, so does Aidan.
We were staying at Mike and Tanya's.  We had originally planned on a hotel in downtown Brisbane, but Mike and Tanya wanted us to stay with them so we could see more of each other.  I am so glad we did.  I don't think we would have had half the fun or adventure if dad and I were on our own.  And, I know I would have missed something very special.  Getting to know Tanya and Eryn and Aidan.
Mike and Tanya have a 4 bedroom house and Eryn let me use her room.  Dad was in the guest room, and Eryn was bunking with Aidan in his room while we stayed with them.  I really like their house.  Roomy and cozy and the bathrooms are done right!  The bathtub and shower are in one room, the toilet is in a small room next to that, and a bathroom counter and sink is just outside both connecting the with the laundry area and back door.
Oh!  Before I forget!  One of my objectives was to observe whether it is really true that the water drains counter-clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere!  No I didn't write this in my journal, but I'm writing it now because it was something I wanted to do on this trip and all of you are sick enough to enjoy my little mental asides....lol.
You know, I never did get around to proving that one.  Whenever I thought to check, it was usually in the restroom (I do lots of "wondering" in the restroom.  Particularly if there isn't any reading material or pictures on the wall.  I start thinking about all kinds of stuff that I'm curious about.  Like, this water draining thing).  Darn of those toilets don't work different than here!  Everything just goes WOOSH! straight down, no draining to it like ours does.  So.... I just didn't get to see for myself.  That is definately a goal for next time.
I wonder if the water drains different on the plane depending on which side of the Equator it is on.  Northern hemisphere, the toilets drain clockwise; Southern Hemisphere, counter-clockwise....hmmm.  I wonder if you could stay in the restroom, flush just before you cross the Equator and see it go one way, then just after crossing the Equator, flush and see it go the other!???  (I'm beginning to sound like Dustin Hoffman in Rainman.  Egad.)
Catch your breath (I know you are laughing hysterically...) and then read on....
:P

Eryn wrote the following in my journal.  She is completely adorable.
DEAR ANT LORE I LOVE YOU AIDAN LOVES YOU TOO MY MOM LOVES YOU TOO AND MY DAD LOVES YOU TOO WE WILL LOVE YOU EVREY DAY.

Aidan used a blue highlighter and drew a picture for me on the next page.  He put an X for a kiss and and O for a hug.   I don't think they know how much they warmed my heart with their genuine affection.  We had a good snuggle before I sent them out so I could change.... and write a few sentences.
Friday, October 1, 2004 - 8:15am

I woke up just before daylight with a sinus headache.  It was about 4:30am or so, I think.  Took some Excedrin and a Benedryl and went back to sleep.
At 6:00am, I woke up again and went to the kitchen for a drink.  Eryn and Aidan must have heard me because they knocked on my door a couple seconds after I crawled back into bed.  No more sleeping today.  I got up and we all went to the livingroom and snuggled on the couch to watch TV in our pajamas.  Tanya came in a little later (I could hear Mike in the shower).  I made breakfast and we are all getting ready to go to the Zoo and see "The Crocodile Hunter" (Steve Irwin).
Dad is ok today and I am better.  Headache is almost gone.  Mike is off to work.  We will book trip to Moreton Island today for Monday.
     I'm off now.  More later........

Friday, October 1, 2004 - 8:30pm

    What a day!

Aidan and Eryn insisted I ride in the backseat with them.  One on either side.  They are charming, kind and well mannered.  I love them dearly.
On the way to the zoo, we stopped to get some medicine for dad's tummy rumbles.
