In this year's public speaking competition was a great success, some 200 students took part in the competition. The adjudicators were Mr. M. Evershed, Miss W.L. Wong and Mrs. M.C. Wong.

The topics for the junior section and the senior section were, "If you had supernatural powers, would you prefer to change the past or to know the future?" and, "History repeats itself" respectively. There was also an improvised speech category for the senior section. There were six finalists in each section. The high quality of the speeches, the variety of arguments, the fluency of language and excellent presentation skills exhibited by the finalists greatly impressed the audience.

The champion of the senior level in the English section was Winnie Yip. Surprisingly, she was a fourth former, one of the youngest competitors in the senior level of both sections. "I was anxious when I received my improvise speech's topic 'Nostalgia'. My mind was blank," the experienced public speaker claimed, "At first, I thought it was a country name. Luckily, the meaning came to me eventually" She said that she enjoyed the minutes when the whole audience was paying attention to her. Though she pinpointed the minor imperfection in her delivery, she couldn't help smiling brightly when she recalled the moment.

The competition ended with the comments from Mr. M. Evershed. He enjoyed the competition as students on the stage shone like stars. He believed that many of us had the courage to go up to the stage, and he was looking forward to seeing more of us participating.

The prizewinners were as follows:
  Winner First runner-up Second runner-up
Junior Section Joanne Ng (3A) Karen Tang (3A) Yunie Wong(2A)
Senior Section Winnie Yip (4B) Maggie Kong (L6S) Carmen Tam (5B)
