How does it feel to be disabled? This year we were given the chance to participate in a game that allowed us to experience the feeling.

Organized by the Student Association, the inter-class competition required each team of ten people to finish an obstacle race.

Each team member was given a physical constraint to deal with-- blind, mute, crippled and armless. Through cooperation, the teams raced to overcome the obstacles. The game was part of an activity of the Community Service Week, which was aimed at letting students understand more about the disabled, how to help them, and raises students' attention to helping the needy in Hong Kong.

Through morning assemblies, students were introduced to some basic skills in helping the disabled. Techniques like how to operate a wheelchair and how to lead the blind were shown through a video starring members of the Student Association. Students also had the opportunity to learn sign language.

Another video was an interview with "Dat Gor", a polio victim. Dat Gor talked about his views on discrimination and his feelings towards being disabled. He also encouraged students to treasure every moment they have, and to enjoy life.

Mr. Ngai Ka-Chuen, a member of Hong Kong's Fencing Team was invited to speak at one morning assembly. Mr. Ngai had lost his right leg after being in an MTR station accident and had to use a prothesis. He talked about his feelings before and after the accident, and how he stood up to adapt to the society as a disabled person. The story was interesting and emotive, and inspired students to think how lucky they are.
