Through morning assemblies, students were introduced to some basic
skills in helping the disabled. Techniques like how to operate a wheelchair
and how to lead the blind were shown through a video starring members
of the Student Association. Students also had the opportunity to learn
sign language.
Another video was an interview with "Dat Gor", a polio
victim. Dat Gor talked about his views on discrimination and his feelings
towards being disabled. He also encouraged students to treasure every
moment they have, and to enjoy life.
Mr. Ngai Ka-Chuen, a member of Hong Kong's Fencing Team was invited
to speak at one morning assembly. Mr. Ngai had lost his right leg
after being in an MTR station accident and had to use a prothesis.
He talked about his feelings before and after the accident, and how
he stood up to adapt to the society as a disabled person. The story
was interesting and emotive, and inspired students to think how lucky
they are.
