Handkerchief Gifts

Materials:

  • Assorted handkerchiefs
  • Embroidery thread
  • Embroidery needle
  • Small embroidery hoop, optional
  • Scissors
  • Needle
  • Thread

For a monogrammed handkerchief:

  1. Using typeface enlarged to the desired size on a photocopier, trace initials or date in pencil onto the corner of a handkerchief, or draw the monogram freehand.
  2. Insert the handkerchief into a small embroidery hoop, or handhold it. Fill in the monogram with embroidery thread using a satin stitch or French knots.

For a handkerchief envelope:

  1. Lay the handkerchief on a flat surface.
  2. Fold the bottom third up into the center, and then hand-stitch the sides closed to create an envelope.
  3. Slip the gift into the pocket, fold over the top flap, and loosely stitch the envelope closed (or add a button and buttonhole for fastening).
