Colorful Clay

Kids love to play with modeling clay – whether they're sculpting it, pounding it, or throwing it. Replenish their supply with this colorful clay that's fun to make.

Colorful Clay
Materials:
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon cooking oil
  • Food coloring

Instructions:

  1. In a heavy saucepan, combine flour, salt, and cream of tartar.
  2. Add oil, 1 cup water, and food coloring as desired.
  3. Cook over medium heat for 3 minutes, stirring constantly, until mixture pulls away from sides of pan.
  4. Remove from heat, and let cool 1 minute. Transfer to a work surface, and knead until smooth.
  5. Store in an airtight container; it will keep for several weeks.

This clay is not for children under 1 year of age; due to its high salt content, children should be discouraged from consuming it.
