ROUNDING UP
Just a few days ago the head of the Roman church made history again when he visited Greece,
Syria and Malta, retracing, as they say, the missionary journeys of the Apostle Paul.
He met with the leaders of the Orthodox Church in Athens and became the first pope to
enter and pray inside the revered Great Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, Syria.
John Paul II has been doing a global round up of the "separated brethren" of his
church. Many see his aggressive attitude towards ecumenism as a good sign that Christianity,
together with other religions, may yet be reunited sooner. Last year he visited Jerusalem
and offered "apologies" to the Jews who fell victim to the Roman Church's crime over
the centuries. And in his recent trip, he asked forgiveness for his church's sins
against the Orthodox Church and its enmity against the Muslims. Such attitude is
very mush welcome to many denominations who believe that "we are all one" despite
the differences in faith and traditions. Such denominations are now actually seeking
reconciliation with the Roman Church. Treaties are being signed. Joint declarations
are being announced. Covenants are being established. All of these for the glory of
ecumenical spirit. The World Council of Churches is the primary body of ecumenism
around the world, besides regional and national organizations. Over the years it
has held conferences and joint meeting with various religions promoting fellowship
and humanitarianism.
It is only a matter of time. The buzzword among churches today will soon claim
complete success in gathering the different denominations into one body. But these
churches do not realize that the spirit behind this is not of God. Fellowship without
regards to the truth is never from God, ever. Can two walk together except they agree?
But Satan is very deceptive in taking the form of an angel of light, bringing good
tiding and hope for everyone. The book of Daniel says that a fierce ruler will stand
up in the last days and, among other things, destroy many by means of peace. That is
exactly what is being offered today. Peace to the nations. Peace with other religions.
Peace to the Middle East.
Only God knows how long the present status quo will continue. But it is most likely
that the world will be greatly disappointed because they all look to a man instead of God.
"There is no peace, saith the Lord, to the wicked."
