| MAY 3 WHALLEY CUBS 5 @ LIGHTNING 2 Defensive mis-commiunications hurt us on this day. Whalley drew us into a few throwing errors and bad decisions. Shane Ross went 3 for 4 scoring once, McFadden had a double and scored on Watt's triple. MAY 5 BELLINGHAM 8 @ LIGHTNING 11 BELLINGHAM 9 @ LIGHTNING 5 First game saw us mount a big comeback thanks to Coach Parkinson's game plan of bunting B'ham into making some defensive errors. We did extremely well battling back from trailing 7-1early in the game. Troy Ross went 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored. Watt drove in 2 and scored twice, Brinson drove in 2 rbi's as did Wadden as he drew 2 bases-loaded walks. Ratcliffe went 2 for 3 with an rbi. Badali scored twice. The bad news from the game was the loss of Badali with a broken bone in his pitching hand when he was beaned while batting in the 6th inning. The second game saw us jump out to a 5-0 lead in the 1st inning, then we decided to go to sleep the rest of the way and it showed by the final score. The only bright spot was Chad Perran who went 2 for 2 with 2 rbis and a run scored. MAY 6 LIGHTNING 15 @ NORTH VAN CENTRAL 2 (5 innings mercy) (KIRKSTONE PARK) Tor Tolhurst pitched a complete game 1 hitter striking out 5 while walking only 1. Tolhurst hit a 2 run home run in the 5th and scored 3 times in total going 4 for 4. Garisto went 2 for 2, scoring twice, Watt was 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored, Ratcliffe scored twice and drove in 2, Helm scored twice too. In the 5th inning we sent 18 batters to the plate scoring 13 runs. LIGHTNING 5 @ MOUNT SEYMOUR 6 (8 innings) (KIRKSTONE PARK) With pitcher's Badali & McFadden injured and being our 5th game in 3 days, we ran out of pitchers in the 2nd game of the double header. S. Ross, Brinson & Parkinson hit doubles in the 2nd inning driving in a run each time to lead the offence. Helm went 2 for 3, Vachon 2 for 4 with 2 rbi's. S. Ross & Brinson went 2 for 4. MAY 9 LIGHTNING 1 @ WHALLEY REDS 5 What a great game! The Lightning were a very unhealthy team, Wadden went home with the flu, Ratcliffe & Vachon probably should have had the night off with leg injuries, but we didn't have any spares. A terrific early pitcher's duel between Matt Jones of Whalley & Matt Watt of the Lightning. Jones struck out 9 (most we've had this season) in 5 innings, allowing 2 hits while Watt struck out 8 and not allowing a hit in 4 innings of work. Ratcliffe scored the only Lightning run, driven in by Helm who went 2 for 3 on the night. |

| MAY 11 LIGHTNING 0 @ WHALLEY CUBS 9 The Cubs came out hitting in the 1st inning, getting 4 in the inning and cruised to the victory from there. We only mustered 4 hits. MAY 12 Game 1: LIGHTNING 12 @ WHITE ROCK CUBS 1 (5 innings) Game 2: LIGHTNING 12 @ WHITE ROCK CUBS 1 (7 Innings) The first game saw Tor Tolhurst pitch his second straight, 5 inning mercy win, striking out 4 allowing 2 hits and 9 walks. Tolhurst went 3 for 4 at the dish banging out 2 doubles and a single scoring twice with 4 RBI's. Game 2 saw Kevin Ratcliffe get the win pitching 5 innings striking out 3 allowing 2 hits and 1 walk. Brinson closed out the game, striking out 4 in the final 2 innings 0 walks & 0 hits. Brinson was 4 for 4 with 2 singles, 2 doubles, 3 runs scored and 1 RBI. Vachon knocked in 3 RBI's MAY 16 LIGHTNING 0 @ LYNDEN 4 Not much to say, I wasn't there. We only had 1 hit during the game. NORTH/SOUTH CLASSIC MAY 18-21 Pretty happy with our games, teams that we invited in were strong. Couple BC Minor teams are strong, as most of the players are 15 years old in Little League age. Beat Langley Red Sox 12-3 in the first game, lost Matt Watt for a week or so (another pitcher!) with a jammed finger on his pitching hand. Lost to Coquitlam 12-4 we made 6 errors in the rain delayed game...no excuses, the other team played in the same conditions. Beat a very good Oak Harbor, Babe Ruth team 5-0. Shane Ross pitched 5 of his best innings all season, Brinson pitched the final 2 innings. Lost 16-2 to the Vancouver Mud Dogs (older BC Minor team), they hit extremely well. Players have a few days off, which they need to heal some injuries. Thank you to the parents who helped run the tournament. |
