Golf Course Inspection Summary of May 2008
The overall condition of the front 9 was good and appeared to be on a positive upward trend. Review of December 2007 inspection is also included in this report.
Tees: Overall rating was 4. Tees 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8 were rated 4+ and tees 3, 4, 9 were rated 3.
Tee 3: The tee markers were on the far right side of the tee and from this position the ball flight was blocked by a large cottonwood tree. Recommend removal of the cottonwood tree. This would allow use of the entire surface area of the tee, thus improving the quality of the tee.
Estimated Completion….. 1 August 2008
Blue Tee 4: Because of the narrow window to the fairway the tee’s hitting area in limited to a few feet on the left side of the tee. From this angle the golfers tee shot is pointed to the left rough. Recommend the two oaks on the right side be trimmed this would allow use of the entire tee.
Estimated Completion….. 1 August 2008
Tee 9: The rating was reduced due to the large number of unrepaired divots. Large portion of the problem is due to the limited surface area of the tee. The rear area is elevated and limits use. The tee needs to be one level to allow better usage and reduce wear to the front portion of the tee. Recommend this be assigned to the Project Committee and elevate the priority. This project could be accomplished with volunteers and maintenance staff.
Fairways/Rough: Overall rating was 4. They were in good condition, however, the fairway grass was long and needed mowed and the distance markers need trimmed.
The encroachment of the rough into the fairways is affecting playability on holes 1, 5, 6, 8. Hole 1, the rough on the left side of fairway should be reduced by 15 feet. Hole 5, the 200 yard landing area is less than 20 yards and should be expanded. Hole 6, the rough on the right side of the second fairway bunker should be reduced. Hole 8, lengthen the fairway on the south side of the creek to the water hazard stakes.
Estimated Completion….. 1 September 2008
Greenside Bunkers: Overall rating was 3+. All bunkers needed general maintenance in trimming and removal of grass growing in the sand. Bunker lips on holes 2, 3, 5, and 6 are excessive and in some cases concave. Hole 1 is a bright spot in bunker condition. It is evident that maintenance was successful in correcting a problem area.
The general maintenance issue was correct as of 20 May 2008.
Estimated Completion….. 1 August 2008
Apron: Overall rating was 3. This is the lowest rated area. The problem is the aprons are uneven (bumpy) surface. There needs to be an aggressive program to improve playability of the aprons. Golfers should not be penalized for missing the green by two feet.
Estimated Completion….. 16 June 2008
Greens: Overall rating was 4+. The greens were in very good condition and appear to be getting better. The stimp meter ranged from 8.6 to 8.9. The one area of concern is 8 green. Over the last few years the right side of the green surface area has been considerably reduced and patched with varied types of grasses. This has led to a smaller and more oval green. If there is a problem with the right side that can’t be rectified we would recommend expanding the green on the left side and left rear of the green. The larger green area would provide additional pin placement areas and reduce wear.
Estimated Completion….. 1 September 2008
Review of December 2007 Inspection Report: The golf course superintendent responded very favorability to the report and corrected the issues documented. Of the numerous items there is only one outstanding issue. Hole 14 the left rough between fairway bunkers and fairway is too wide. The rough should be reduced by 8 to 10 feet.
Estimated Completion….. 1 September 2008
