Golf Course Inspection August 2009
The overall
condition of the front 9 was very good. The condition of the golf course,
during the hottest period of the year, showed considerable improvement from the
previous years. Open items will be reviewed monthly by the Golf Committee with
the Golf Superintendent and Golf Professional. Reviews of open issues from previous
inspections are also included in this report. Overall rating of the front 9 is
4.
Tee 4: Poor
turf density and overgrown with weeds. Their needs a long
term solution to a very long standing problem.
Estimated
Completion:
Tee 9: Poor
turf density. Golf Committee has submitted a solution and awaiting funding ($5600).
Estimated
Completion: 2010
Tee: 2, 4, 5
and 9.
Estimated Completion: Ongoing maintenance issue. Grass will be treated chemically
(MSMA). Will monitor issue until completion.
Tee: Forward
Tee 7 and 8 are in poor condition. There appears to be a general lack of
maintenance on these new tees. We are currently in the process of building 7
additional forward tees and the precedence that is being set is not a good one.
Estimated
Completion:
Tee: White
tee 2. There is excess water in front of the tee.
Estimated
Completion:
Fairway/Rough: Overall rating was 4. Much kudos to the divot stompers for marking ground under repair.
Front 9: Yardage
markers were not trimmed on the entire front 9. It was difficult to even find
the sprinkler heads with the yardage markers. This affects playability in that
it slows play.
Estimated
Completion:
Hole 4: Dead
tree branches/logs located on the left rough near the green.
Estimated
Completion:
Hole 7: Very
dry area on left of fairway 170-180 yards from green.
Estimated
Completion:
Hole 2, 4, 8:
Old fence concrete anchor points are a safety hazard. They were originally used
as an access control fence but are no longer used. They now present a safety
hazard and should be removed... The ladies club reported this problem.
Estimated Completion:
Needs reviewed by Golf Committee for decision
Greenside/Fairway Bunkers: Overall rating was 2+. The overall condition of the bunkers is the
lowest of the areas rated. This problem is not a surprise to anyone that plays
golf LWW. The traps are a hazard within a hazard. Because of high faces (lip)
and the bunkers bottoms that are not flat you have to hit a Tiger Woods shot to
get the ball in play let allow on the green. Suggest we have a test program
with one trap and have the maintenance staff put their expertise to use in
correcting this serious playability problem.
Estimated
Completion:
Majority of
the traps are in need of basic maintenance. Grass, small plants and burrowing
animal holes are in the traps.
Estimated
Completion:
Numerous
traps have been edged but the sand was not tapered to the edge.
Estimated
Completion:
Hole 7:
Right green side bunker needs sand.
Estimated
Completion:
Apron: Overall rating was 4. Turf density is good with the exception of
number 8
Front 9:
There isn’t a smooth transition between the green and apron. The apron grass
height is part of the problem.
Estimated
Completion:
Greens: Overall rating was 4+. The greens are in good shape. Even our problem
greens (2, 3, 8 and 9) are playable. Ken Wolford and staff should be commended.
The greens are stimped three times a week and run between 9.2
to 10.
Open items from previous reports
Holes 11,
12, 15: To improve playability and to conform to the golf master plan recommend
removing the following bunkers. Hole 11, remove the right rear bunker; Hole 12,
remove fairway bunker on the left side of the fairway and replace with a
mounded grass area; Hole 15, remove the fairway bunker on the right side of
fairway replacing with a mounded grass area.
Estimated
Completion: Golf Committee requested Ken Wolford provide cost to correct. The
golf committee then will make a decision.
Cost is $2000 for seeded and $2800 for sod. Greens Committee action
recommended the bunkers be removed and area sodded in the following order….11,
12, and 15.
Estimated Completion: July 2010 Project will be delayed due to the
forward tee project.
Practice
Area: The reason for the low rating was the synthetic green area above the
practice sand trap. This area in compacted with sand and mold. Golf Committee
requested Ken Wolford remove the synthetic area above the practice trap and
replace with natural grass.
Estimated Completion: July 2010 Project will be delayed due to the
forward tee project.
Fairway/Rough:
Hole 2: 80 yard bare area left of cart path near
hazard.
Estimated
Completion:
Hole
4: Numerous bare areas to the left of
cart path, starting approximately 100 yards from the tee where the cart path
curb ends, and extends 250 ft.
Estimated
Completion:
Hole
5: Wet area in rough just past the small
pine tree on the right approximately 250 yards from the green. It may be a water line leak.
Estimated Completion:
Hole
8: Bare area between the cart path and
green.
Estimated
Completion:
Hole 11:
The sculpted area of the fairway that leads to the green, 40 yards in front of
the green, needs to change so that the fairway points not just to the red tee
but all tees. This can be accomplished by widening fairway area by 5 yards.
Estimated
Completion:
Hole13: The left side of the fairway needs to be
sculpted to follow the contour of the new cart path.
Estimated Completion:
Hole
13: The turf grass to the right of the
cart path is very poor. The worst area is located where the old cart path was
once located. This area should be marked ground under repair until corrected.
Estimated
Completion:
Hole
15: There was a pine tree removed, 50
yards from the black tee, but the stump still needs to be removed.
Estimated
Completion: No date set. Once there are addition stumps to be removed we can
schedule a contractor. Not cost effective to do one at a time. Issue will stay
active until completion.
Tee 11 and
16(Red): Requires a sand container to
repair divots.
Estimated
Completion: Containers on order
Tee 4
(White): Turf density was very
poor. This tee has a history of poor
condition. There needs to be a permanent fix to a longstanding problem.
Estimated
Completion: PAD is currently being
written to modify tee. Jan 2010
Tee 6
(White): There is a depression in the middle front of the tee adjacent to the
white yardage marker.
Estimated
Completion: Oct 2009
Greens:
Green 8.
Over the last few years the right side of the green surface area has been
considerably reduced and patched with varied types of grasses. This has led to a smaller and more oval
green. If there is a problem with the
right side that can’t be rectified we would recommend expanding the green on
the left side and left rear of the green.
The larger green area would provide additional pin placement areas and
reduce wear.
Estimated
Completion…..
