Golf Course Inspection Summary of August 2008
The overall
condition of the back 9 was excellent. During
the December 2007 inspection the lowest rated area were
the aprons and the August inspection rated them one of the highest. Compliments to the maintenance staff for improving the overall
condition of the golf course. The open items will be review monthly by
the Golf Committee with the Golf Superintendent and Golf Professional. Review
of May inspection open issues are included in this report.
Tee 11: From the red tee markers the left portion of
the green is partially blocked by two trees. The tulip tree and oak tree need
to be trimmed.

Fairway/Rough: Overall rating was 4. Both have very good turf density and are in
good condition. There were a few areas that were wet and that seems to be
related to drainage issues. Hole 10, the
wet area is 20 yards right of the front side of green. Hole 11, the wet area is 2 yards left of the
middle portion of the green. Hole 17,
the wet area is 100 yards from the red tees on the left side near the mulberry
tree.
No
completion date expected.
Hole 13:
Fairway distance marker missing. The
sprinkler was replaced and the marker not reinstalled. The sprinkler head is on the right side of the
fairway approximately 136 yards from green.

The
encroachment of the rough is affecting playability on holes 10, 13, 14, and 17.
Hole 10, remove
the rough in the middle of the fairway on either side of the cart path that
intercepts the fairway. Hole 13, the rough on the right side of green needs to be
expanded 30 feet to enlarge the landing area. Hole 14, the left
rough between the fairway bunkers need to be reduced by 10 feet. The issue was first reported in the December
2007 inspection. Hole 17, the left rough
is encroaching into the landing area 120 to 180 yards from the red tees.

Completion
Greenside/Fairway Bunkers: Overall rating was 4. All
bunkers were trimmed and raked. Bunker lips on holes 13, 14, 15, 17 are
excessive and in some cases concave. It appears to be caused by poor design and
age. Don’t know if there is a cost
effective way to correct without rebuilding the traps. Estimated completion
date is not requested but a long term solution is.
Holes 11, 12,
15: To improve playability and to conform to the golf master plan recommend
removing the following bunkers. Hole 11, remove the right rear bunker; Hole 12,
remove fairway bunker on the left side of the fairway and replace with a
mounded grass area; Hole 12, remove the small right front green side bunker; Hole
15, remove the fairway bunker on the right side of fairway replacing with a
mounded grass area.

Apron: Overall rating was 4+. This area has shown the
greatest improvement since the last inspection. This problem is related to the
age of the green complex and the maintenance staff has taken aggressive action
for correction.
Greens: Overall rating was 4+. The greens
were in very good condition. The stimp readings were between 9.5 and 9.8.
No
completion date expected.
Practice Area: Overall rating was 3. The reason for
the low rating was the synthetic green area above the practice sand trap. This
area in compacted with sand and mold. Recommend that Ken Wolford and Jim Knight
formulate a plan for correction.

Review of May 2008 Inspection
Report:
The
following are the outstanding open issues from the May report. The majority of
issues can’t be corrected until cooler weather but will be tracked until
correction.
Tee 3: The tee markers were on the far right side of
the tee and from this position the ball flight was blocked by a large
cottonwood tree. Recommend removal of
the cottonwood tree. This would allow use of the entire surface area of the tee,
thus improving the quality of the tee.

Blue Tee
4: Because of the narrow window to the
fairway the tee’s hitting area in limited to a few feet on the left side of the
tee. From this angle the golfers tee
shot is pointed to the left rough. Recommend
the two oaks on the right side be trimmed this would allow use of the entire
tee.

The
encroachment of the rough into the fairways is affecting playability on holes
1, 5, 6, 8. Hole 1, the rough on the
left side of fairway should be reduced by 15 feet. Hole 5, the 200 yard
landing area is less than 20 yards and should be expanded. Hole 6, the rough on the right side of the
second fairway bunker should be reduced. Hole 8, lengthen the
fairway on the south side of the creek to the water hazard stakes.
Estimated
Completion…..
Green 8. Over
the last few years the right side of the green surface area has been considerably
reduced and patched with varied types of grasses. This has led to a smaller and more oval green.
If there is a problem with the right
side that can’t be rectified we would recommend expanding the green on the left
side and left rear of the green. The larger green area would provide additional
pin placement areas and reduce wear.

Review of December 2007 Inspection Report:
Hole 14 the
left rough between fairway bunkers and fairway is too wide. The rough should be reduced by 8 to 10 feet.
