Serving

Serving is something that you will be asked and expected to do.  Serving is not a punishment in any way, actually it is a chance to show what talent, grace and loyalty you have for the Masters/Mistresses of your Home.  When serving be as descriptive as you can. Describe how your body moves, where you are, what you are doing, how you are feeling, things like that. The more descriptive the better. Serving is a way to show yourself off to Masters/Mistresses so use it well.

Rules of serving

1. Always refer to the person being served as Master or Mistress unless your Room website states that Frees are to be called differently.
 
2. Refrain from greeting other Masters/Mistresses while serving. Wait till you are done serving, as your complete attention should be on the Master/Mistress you serve only.

3. Only perform a heated serve if the Master/Mistress has requested it or if you know for sure that the Master/Mistress expects it.
 
4. Serves are expected to be between 4-8 posts long and between 5-10 lines long. Any longer than that and the post will probably not be completely read.

5. Slaves are expected to offer to serve right after they have entered and greeted all the Masters/Mistresses.
 
6. Slaves are expected to serve all the Masters and Mistresses in the room. If they have a problem with one Master or Mistress please go and speak to the Room Leader(s).

7. Slaves that are not of Lost Worlds are not allowed to serve in Rome.
 

Order of Serving

- The slaves personal Master or Mistress
- The Room Leader(s)
- Frees of High Positions in the Room
- Masters
- Mistresses
- Visiting Masters
- Visiting Mistresses

Steps of serving

For a Drink serve:
(We will use a goblet for example for this serve. It could be a mug, cup or tankard, but the procedure is the same)

1. Kneel before the Master/Mistress and ask what they wish to have brought to them “Can this girl/boy bring You anything Master/Mistress?”

2. Acknowledge what they as for by replying “Yes Master/Mistress.”

3. Move into the servery/kitchen and search for a goblet. Make sure you check the goblet’s rim for any chips, cracks or imperfections. Also, it is an option to shine the goblet with a clean cloth.

4. Move to fetch the drink of choice in the chillery/cold room (along with chilled goblets) and tea materials can be found on the counter.

5. When done, move back to the Master/Mistress.

6. Test the drink and it is an option to kiss the side gently and then offer the drink to the Master/Mistress. (Remember to kiss the SIDE of the goblet, as the Master/Mistress will drink from the rim. If a slave kisses the rim, they are implying that they stand at the same social level as a Master/Mistress.)

7. Ask if you can be of any further service and when dismissed move off quickly.
 

For a Food serve:

1. Kneel before the Master/Mistress and ask what they wish to have brought to them “Can this girl/boy bring You anything Master/Mistress?”.

2. Acknowledge what they ask for by replying “Yes Master/Mistress.”

3. Move into the servery/kitchen and search for the plates and utensils you will need. Make sure you check the plate’s rim for any chips, cracks or imperfections. Also, it is an option to wipe the plate and utensils clean with a clean cloth.

4. Move to fetch the food of choice and prepare it as needed. If you have a plate and a goblet or more then one plate, use a tray to carry the food to the Master/Mistress.

5. When done, move back to the Master/Mistress.

6. Test the food and drink, and then offer it to the Master/Mistress.

7. Ask if you can be of any further service and when dismissed move off quickly.
 

Some useful tips

•  Be as descriptive as possible. That is the main factor to a good serve.

•  If you are not sure about if the Master/Mistress wants their drink chilled or not, in the traditional serving vessel or not, ask.  Never be afraid to ask. Asking will only improve your chances of pleasing the Master/Mistress as much as possibly.

•  If a Master/Mistress leaves in the middle of a serve, ask another Master/Mistress in the room if you should continue the serve or wait and see if the Master/Mistress comes back. Boots do happen. If you are alone in the room with the Master/Mistress that you are serving and they leave, post that you have stopped the serve until they return.

•  If a Master/Mistress does not respond to your serve offer, wait for a moment or two and then post that you are moving away to serve someone else.

•  Develop your own personality as you learn more and get more experience. Put personal touches to a serve. It makes the serve more interesting. It also helps build a personality for your slave char.

•  If a Master/Mistress ask for something to be brought in the bottle, bring the bottle itself and the goblet back to the Master/Mistress as well.

•  When testing the rim of a goblet or plate for example for any imperfections, there a few places you can do it upon your body. Your stomach, upper inside of your thighs, on your neck just above your collar or your nipples. Be creative with it.

•  It is a good idea to ask the Master/Mistress if they would like their drink chilled or at room temperature. Do this if they do not tell you, just to make sure you are getting exactly what they wish for.
